Congressman Brandon Gill, who won the 2024 general election against Ernest Lineberger III with 62.1% of the vote, used his social media account on September 16, 2025, to address reactions to a political assassination and related issues of free speech and political violence.

In one post from that day, Gill wrote: “Leftists spent years trying to dox, cancel and ruin people’s lives for recognizing that men and women are different.

But now they become champions of “free speech” when their own ranks are celebrating a political assassination?

This is completely backwards and morally” (September 16, 2025).

In another message posted later the same day, Gill stated: “Foreigners celebrating a political assassination aren’t welcome in America.” (September 16, 2025).

He also referenced polling data regarding attitudes toward political violence: “24% of people who identify as “very liberal” think political violence is acceptable.

That number’s only 3% for conservatives.

That’s not an American problem—that’s a left-wing problem. https://t.co/mEA7cmNwf4” (September 16, 2025).

Gill’s remarks follow ongoing national debates about the boundaries of free speech and responses to high-profile incidents involving political figures. His statements reference recent controversies in which some individuals celebrated or justified acts of political violence online. In addition to referencing public opinion data on acceptance of political violence among different ideological groups, Gill drew distinctions between the reactions he attributed to left-leaning individuals versus conservatives.

Brandon Gill was elected to Congress after defeating Ernest Lineberger III in the 2024 general election by a significant margin.
