Congressman Brandon Gill, a U.S. Representative who won his seat in 2024 with 62.1% of the vote against Ernest Lineberger III, recently used his social media platform to comment on immigration enforcement and education policy in Texas.
On April 10, 2026, Gill referenced the DIGNIDAD Act in relation to a recent criminal case involving an undocumented immigrant. He wrote, “Let’s… apply [the DIGNIDAD Act] to the ‘Maryland Father,’ Kilmar Abrego Garcia. He’s the illegal alien from El Salvador who came here in 2011 when he was 16. Law enforcement has tied him to MS-13. His wife accused him of beating her. He was caught on a police bodycam ferrying”.
Later that day, Gill addressed concerns about historical curriculum changes in Texas schools. On April 10, 2026, he stated, “Radical activists claimed the Alamo is an Islamic building. Now they’re lobbying Texas to insert fake Islamic history into our kids’ classrooms. I just sent a letter demanding the SBOE reject this revisionist garbage. Texas history is not up for rewriting.”.
In a subsequent post on April 10, 2026, Gill shared further details: “Here’s exactly what I sent: https://t.co/vEWLexTAR4”.
Brandon Gill’s statements reflect ongoing debates about both immigration policy and educational standards within Texas and across the country. The State Board of Education (SBOE) periodically reviews curriculum guidelines for public schools amid frequent discussions about how history should be taught.
Gill secured his congressional seat by defeating Ernest Lineberger III in the general election held in November 2024 with a margin of more than twenty-five percentage points.
