Congressman Brandon Gill, who represents Texas’s 26th congressional district, posted a series of tweets on October 1, 2025, criticizing Democratic lawmakers for their role in the recent government shutdown and questioning federal spending priorities.

In a tweet published at 13:55 UTC, Gill stated, “Democrats shut down the government because they want to give your hard earned tax dollars to left wing media and criminal illegal aliens.”

Later that day at 14:44 UTC, he posed a question to his followers regarding public funds and healthcare access: “Should your hard-earned tax dollars pay for healthcare for illegal aliens?”

Despite the ongoing shutdown, Gill assured constituents that his office would remain operational. At 18:19 UTC he tweeted, “Despite Democrats’ reckless shutdown, my office remains open.

If you are in need of assistance, my team and I are here to help the people of TX-26.

Brandon Gill was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Ernest Lineberger III in the general election with 62.1% of the vote compared to Lineberger’s 35.7%. The government shutdown referenced by Gill follows a pattern of partisan disputes over federal budget allocations and immigration policy that have previously led to temporary halts in government operations.
