In March 2000, a series of tornadoes struck Fort Worth, causing significant damage in the Linwood neighborhood near the Cultural District. One notable result was a billboard supported by four steel girders that was bent nearly in half by the storm’s force.
Eight years after the tornado, much of the housing in Linwood had been demolished, making way for new development called Museum Place. By then, the bent billboard posts had come to symbolize renewal for residents of the area.
Rather than remove these twisted beams, they were preserved through sandblasting and painting. Today, they remain as an unintended sculpture at a busy intersection in Fort Worth—a reminder of both natural forces and community resilience.
