After the Arlington Martin Luther King, Jr. “Advancing the Dream” Four-Day Celebration Committee, Inc. decided to reschedule the events initially planned for Sunday, Jan. 14, and Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, due to extreme winter weather, the committee announced those postponed events have been rescheduled for Feb. 18 and Feb. 19, 2024 in alignment with Black History Month.
Both days are filled with programmatic elements that include singing and dance and are sure to bring unity to the community of Arlington.
The rescheduled events are as follows:
Feb. 18 MLK Hubert Moss Ecumenical Service
6 p.m. | Trinity Methodist
Feb. 19 Zeb Strong Jr. MLK Day of Service
9 a.m. | Mission Arlington
Feb. 19 MLK Day of Service Festival
11 a.m. | Arlington City Center Plaza
Feb. 19 MLK Youth Extravaganza
6:30 p.m. | Fielder Church Metro Center
The committee extends a warm invitation to the entire community for all of the events. This year’s committee chair for the celebration, Aaron Perales, Arlington ISD executive director of engagement, equity and access, believes the events will be fun and historical and will help bring the community together.
“We are looking forward to continuing our weekend of Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration events," Perales said. “Our community will have an opportunity to come together in worship, provide service to our neighbors and celebrate through song and dance. It has been an honor to serve as the 2024 Arlington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Four Day Celebration Committee. I appreciate the leadership of our committee members and the heart of our city for coming together to celebrate. As a celebration participant, I have been able to expand my knowledge of Dr. Martin Luther King's teachings and enhance my understandings through building relationships and learning from others.”
“The Arlington Martin Luther King Jr. Four Day Celebration Committee, is pleased to announce that the events that were postponed on Sunday, January 15, 2024 and Monday, January 15, 2024 due to the winter weather, have been reschedule for February 18, 2024 and February 19, 2024," said Board President Lisa Thompson. "With February being Black History Month, we feel holding these events in February allow for the opportunity to further honor the contribution and legacy of Dr. King.”
