On April 8, a total solar eclipse will be visible across Texas, from Del Rio to Texarkana. The event is set to occur around noon, with totality expected to begin at 1:30 p.m. and last for a few seconds to about 4 1/2 minutes, depending on the viewer's location along the path of the eclipse. Fort Worth residents can anticipate the moment of totality at approximately 1:41 p.m.

"It’s only safe to look directly at the sun during the few minutes of totality. Otherwise, you’ll need to use eclipse glasses or a pinhole viewer," advised the announcement.

To ensure safe viewing, individuals are encouraged to use protective eyewear such as eclipse glasses or a pinhole viewer. Additionally, some City of Fort Worth Transportation & Public Works schedules may be adjusted on April 8 to guarantee worker safety during the eclipse period.

Various events have been organized across Fort Worth to provide opportunities for residents and visitors to experience this celestial phenomenon firsthand. From educational programs at the Fort Worth Library to a Total Eclipse in the Park Watch Party at community centers, there are options for everyone to enjoy and learn about the eclipse.

For those interested in a more immersive experience, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History are offering a special viewing event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 8. Guests can witness the eclipse from the garden's north and south vistas, with unobstructed views of the sky. Solar eclipse glasses will be available for purchase, while free admission and glasses are offered with Garden membership.

Other unique viewing opportunities include kayaking at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, where participants can paddle along the West Fork of the Trinity River and observe the eclipse from a canoe or kayak. Solar scoping activities will also be available at the Nature Center, providing guests with a chance to view the eclipse through specialized equipment.

At the Amon Carter Museum, visitors can enjoy the total solar eclipse from the lawn, with glasses available for purchase in advance. The Fort Worth Zoo is partnering with a research team to study animal behavior during the eclipse, inviting guests to participate in the project and document their observations.

As the eclipse approaches, Fort Worth residents are encouraged to make plans to witness this extraordinary event on April 8. For more information and a full list of eclipse-related activities, individuals can visit Visit Fort Worth or FortWorthTexas.gov/eclipse.
