As spring approaches, residents of Fort Worth and surrounding areas are encouraged to engage in outdoor activities. Among the options, the Rails to Trails Conservancy is inviting the public to participate in Celebrate Trails Day on April 26. This national event focuses on showcasing the more than 42,000 miles of trails available across the country.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth area alone, there are over 1,000 miles of trails ready for exploration, with many more in development. Whether individuals are looking to jog, bike, or simply enjoy the scenery, the expanding trail network aims to accommodate a variety of interests and activities.
The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, known for its diverse ecosystems, offers over 21 miles of hiking trails within its 3,650 acres of land. These trails provide an opportunity to explore prairies, forests, and wetlands, with potential encounters with local wildlife such as bison and bald eagles. Manager Jared Wood advises visitors to carry water, bug spray, and binoculars to enhance their experience.
Participants of Celebrate Trails Day are encouraged to document their experiences on social media, tagging @nctcogtrans. The event represents a chance for the community to appreciate and utilize the natural resources available to them.
