On Saturday, May 4, the City of Fort Worth saw its voters in Tarrant, Denton, and Parker counties come together in the General Election to decide on the 2024 Venue Tax. The outcome was decisive, with the venue tax passing with over 70% of the total votes.
"With the approval of the venue tax, the new hotel occupancy tax rate is now 17% of the price paid for a hotel room in the City of Fort Worth, a 2% increase."
The primary aim of this tax increase is clear - it is intended to generate funds for the renovation and development of the Fort Worth Convention Center and other related tourism projects, as stated, "The purpose of the tax is to fund the renovation and related infrastructure projects of the Fort Worth Convention Center and other tourism related projects."
"The tax is used to promote the City’s tourism and hospitality industry." It is these industries that stand to benefit greatly from the additional revenue generated by the tax. Funds collected from visitors' nightly hotel rates will not only boost tourism assets but also aid in the preservation of historical sites, museums, and the organization of sporting events.
"The tax helps preserve historical sites, museums and organizing sporting events."
This increase in revenue is expected to have a positive impact on various aspects of Fort Worth's tourism and hospitality sector, catering to visitors attending conventions, sporting events, and vacationing in the city.
The next stage in this process will see the Canvas Election results announced during the Fort Worth City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 14, at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Fort Worth City Council Chambers located at 200 Texas St.
As Fort Worth moves forward with the implementation of the 2024 Venue Tax, it is clear that the city is committed to enhancing its tourism offerings and infrastructure for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
