High temperatures, sun, and humidity can cause stress, dehydration, heat stroke, and other serious health issues for pets, livestock, and wildlife. Fort Worth Animal Care & Control (FWACC) offers several tips to help keep animals safe during the summer months.

To protect pets:

- Provide ample water

- Offer shade and shelter

- Avoid overheating

- Use cooling aids

- Monitor for heat stroke

- Groom appropriately

For livestock:

- Ensure access to water

- Provide shade and shelter

- Adjust feeding schedules

- Monitor for heat stress

- Manage workload

For wildlife:

- Provide water sources

- Create shaded areas

- Reduce lawn care during heat

- Maintain feeders and birdbaths

Additionally, FWACC advises taking measures to protect against heat stress, preparing for emergencies, supporting the community, and checking local regulations.

To report animals that may be in distress, call the City’s Customer Care Center at 817-392-1234 or report via the MyFW app.

Summertime is here! If it’s too hot for us, it’s also too hot for them.
