Residents and downtown workers celebrated the reopening of Eighth Street at an Unblocking Party, sponsored by Downtown Fort Worth Inc., on Thursday.

The street between Throckmorton and Houston streets had been closed since January, following an explosion at the nearby Sandman Hotel. Attendees received free T-shirts and ice cream while a musical duo performed.

Businesses located on Eighth Street between Throckmorton and Houston streets, south of the hotel, were affected by the explosion and its aftermath. The City’s Economic Development Department collaborated with the Local Development Corporation to provide over $137,000 in grants to four small businesses in the immediate vicinity to help mitigate revenue losses during cleanup efforts.
