A new initiative called P.A.W.S. for Patriots, organized by Fort Worth Animal Care and Control, seeks to support military veterans and service members through volunteer opportunities with shelter animals. The program aims to create a beneficial environment for both veterans and pets.

The initiative involves the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control team, local veterans, service members, community leaders, and animal welfare advocates. It offers veterans renewed purpose and camaraderie while positively impacting their lives and those of shelter pets. As part of the event, free pet vaccines will be available for service members and veterans, along with resource bags.

The program addresses challenges faced by many veterans during their transition back to civilian life, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. By providing therapeutic volunteer opportunities, it aims to enhance the emotional well-being of veterans while improving the lives of shelter animals.

Participants are encouraged to bring their pets to join in the festivities. Food trucks and local vendors will provide refreshments. Attendees are reminded to keep dogs on a leash for safety.
