As cold temperatures approach Fort Worth on Tuesday night, the city has issued a reminder about available resources to assist those experiencing homelessness. The City of Fort Worth collaborates with various departments, emergency shelter operators, public safety and emergency management personnel, the overflow shelter operator When We Love, and Trinity Metro to ensure that shelter demand does not exceed capacity during cold weather activations.

The city advises individuals seeking shelter to first go to existing emergency shelters. If these shelters reach capacity, additional locations with overflow beds will be activated as needed. This winter has already seen 24 nights where conditions triggered the need for overflow shelter operations. On such nights, an average of 90 guests utilized the overflow facilities. The highest recorded usage was on January 9th, when 1,236 people were sheltered overnight across all Fort Worth facilities, including 140 at the city's overflow shelter.

Residents can check whether cold weather overflow shelters have been activated by calling 311 and pressing 9. For daytime assistance, True Worth Place at 1513 E. Presidio St. serves as a primary resource for adults without housing, operating daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Further information on local homeless resources and services is available on the Homeless Strategies webpage.
