Dog adoptions have resumed at Fort Worth Animal Care & Control’s PetSmart Everyday Adoption Centers following a brief pause. The centers are back to matching healthy, adoptable dogs from the Silcox shelter with new families.

The Fort Worth Animal Care & Control team has made efforts to ensure that low-risk dogs are safely transferred to these PetSmart locations. These dogs have undergone necessary health checks to meet adoption criteria. Although staff is cautious, this move is seen as progress in maintaining animal health and supporting community welfare.

Currently, both the North Animal Campus and Silcox Adoption Center remain closed to the public and volunteers amid ongoing monitoring of the canine distemper virus. The FWACC staff have started processing adoptions that were either approved or put on hold following the temporary closure on March 24. Rescue partners have also resumed tagging suitable animals for transfer.

Interested adopters can visit the PetSmart Hulen or PetSmart Alliance locations to meet dogs available for adoption. Further updates will be provided as they become available.

The reopening of PetSmart adoption centers marks progress in the ongoing commitment to animal health and community well-being.
