On May 31, 2024, Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25) introduced a resolution reaffirming the House of Representatives' continued support for the Second Amendment. The resolution also condemns recent actions by the Biden administration that Williams claims undermine Americans' right to bear arms.
"Our founding fathers envisioned a country where every citizen has the right to protect themselves, their property, and their family," said Congressman Williams. "The Biden administration has gone to extreme lengths to criminalize law-abiding gun owners, ignoring Congress, and using federal agencies like the DOJ, ATF, and DOC to abuse the rule-making process. My resolution reaffirms my strong support for the Second Amendment and condemns Biden’s unconstitutional attack on law-abiding gun owners and buyers."
The resolution is co-sponsored by several Republican representatives including Reps. Biggs (R-AZ), Donalds (R-FL), Harshbarger (R-TN), Hudson (R-NC), Weber (R-TX), Boebert (R-CO), Cline (R-VA), Norman (R-SC), Van Drew (R-NJ), Fry (R-SC), Walberg (R-MI), Crenshaw (R-TX), Moore (R-AL), Lesko (R-AZ), Moolenaar (R-MI), Miller (R-WV), and Pence (R-IN). Supporting organizations include the National Rifle Association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the U.S. Concealed Carry Association, the National Association for Gun Rights, and Heritage Action.
The announcement follows recent regulatory changes implemented by federal agencies under President Biden's administration. On May 30, 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce introduced a new rule limiting commercial firearm exports. Additionally, in June 2023, Congressman Williams voted against an ATF rule that would reclassify stabilizing braces used by veterans for safer recreational shooting.
