The Fort Worth City Council has approved a resolution to apply for the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Program grant, which is funded by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The funds, amounting to $5,099,220, would be allocated to the McPherson-Summer Creek Safe Streets project. This initiative involves designing and constructing bike lanes and implementing safety improvements along McPherson Boulevard and Summer Creek Road.

The project aims to establish a secure connection to three schools, a community center, a regional park, as well as various commercial and residential developments located along these busy corridors. Specifically, it will link Summer Creek Middle School, North Crowley Ninth Grade Campus, and North Crowley High School with the Chisolm Trail Skate Park and Community Center. The bike lanes will be situated along McPherson Boulevard, Hulen Street, and Summer Creek Drive without reducing existing road lanes.

In partnership with Transportation and Public Works (TPW) and FW Lab, NCTCOG has been focusing on mobility issues highlighted in the Fort Worth76104 Transit Needs Assessment. This study seeks innovative transit solutions to enhance mobility and access to essential services such as food, healthcare, housing, and employment in parts of Fort Worth that are currently less accessible. A public meeting was held in November on the city's Historic Southside to address local transit issues.

NCTCOG staff have shared focus areas for project recommendations based on survey results from this past summer. Updates were also provided on several key focus areas identified in their plan. The study is expected to conclude by the end of 2025 with a transportation plan development that includes recommendations for improving or revising transit options to better serve community needs. Public feedback on draft recommendations will be accepted until February 17.
