Fort Worth City Council previously approved funding for the Citywide Master Transportation Plan, Moving A Million (M1M), in 2023 and 2024. As of now, the Transportation & Public Works (TPW) Department has conducted several open houses in key council districts to integrate the city's transportation plans into a unified vision.
The importance of this initiative is highlighted by public and stakeholder involvement, leading to the creation of a project website containing engagement and technical information for both the M1M and Vision Zero Plans.
In collaboration with the Communications & Public Engagement team, TPW launched an outreach campaign utilizing social media, web stories, targeted emails, and printed flyers distributed at community centers and libraries. This effort aims to reach residents, stakeholders, and neighborhood associations effectively.
Recent findings show that over half of respondents reported never using public transportation; however, many expressed willingness if significant improvements were made. Safety was prioritized by participants who ranked changes in roadway design as most important while valuing time savings over speed.
During the second round of open houses, interactive activities encouraged attendees to share their "big ideas," revealing common themes among participants.
Moving forward, a Transportation Investment Program will be developed to ensure timely project delivery in alignment with the 2026 Bond program. M1M will guide future investments over a 25-year period. The Vision Zero Safety Action Plan is also being developed concurrently as part of M1M's safety component.
