Congressman Roger Williams of Texas has introduced the Operation Lone Star Reimbursement Act, a legislative proposal aimed at compensating the State of Texas for its expenditure on border security efforts. The state reportedly spent $11.1 billion between 2021 and 2025.
"For 4 years under the failed Biden-Harris administration, Texas was forced to take on the job of the federal government and step up to protect our homes and communities from invasion," said Congressman Williams. "In just two weeks under President Trump, our border has already become more secure than any point in the last administration. I want to thank Governor Abbott for defending our nation in a time of crisis and agree that it is time Texans are repaid for footing the bill for Biden’s failures at the border."
The bill's original cosponsors include Dan Crenshaw, Keith Self, Jake Ellzey, Brian Babin, Brandon Gill, Morgan Luttrell, and Randy Weber.
The legislation outlines various threats Texas faced and highlights successes attributed to Operation Lone Star. It specifies that Texas must submit a detailed report of expenses incurred for securing the border to the Secretary of Homeland Security. The Secretary will then assess which expenses qualify for reimbursement and forward this report to Congress. Upon approval, the Department of Treasury will reimburse Texas accordingly.
Congressman Roger Williams serves as Chairman of the House Small Business Committee and is also a member of the House Financial Services Committee. He represents Texas's 25th Congressional District.
