The story of Sam and Linda King, long-time residents of Fort Worth, Texas, showcases their dedication to animal rescue. Their journey into fostering dogs began over two decades ago and continues to this day. The couple's commitment was highlighted in a Facebook post from Christmas 2023, when they saved a dog named Jenny from euthanasia at the Mexican border.
Sam King, who works as a data analyst for the City of Fort Worth, recalls how he and his wife immediately decided to adopt Jenny after seeing her picture online. "My wife, Linda, and I saw her picture and immediately said yes, we’ll take her," Sam recounted.
Jenny joined a family already familiar with animal rescue. The Kings have fostered 69 dogs over the years, with eight becoming permanent members of their household due to what they call "foster fails." Among these are dogs like Finn, rescued from difficult circumstances, and Tate from a puppy mill.
Their efforts extend beyond local rescues. Sam shared that they volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah: "We’ve been to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah five times over the past 10 years."
Despite their personal commitment, Sam emphasizes community involvement in animal welfare. He suggests various ways people can contribute if they cannot adopt or foster: "If you can’t adopt or foster, donate money to Fort Worth Animal Care & Control... Donate your time by helping walk dogs."
The Kings' story illustrates how individuals can make a significant impact on animal welfare through both direct action and encouraging community support.
