Fort Worth has alerted residents to be cautious of individuals pretending to be Water Utility employees to enter homes. The warning follows reports of someone impersonating an employee in the Llano Springs area, attempting to access homes under the pretense of investigating a water leak.
The suspect reportedly wore a shirt bearing the City logo. Authorities urge residents to contact the police and report such incidents immediately. Additionally, residents are encouraged to inform the Water Utility at 817-392-4477 if they suspect impostors.
Officials clarify that genuine Water employees do not require home access to check for leaks, water pressure, or sample water quality. Entry into a home is only needed in exceptional cases and typically only after the resident has reported an issue.
This warning is not Fort Worth's first encounter with impersonators posing as City employees. Previously, individuals claiming to offer refunds have persuaded homeowners to provide change for a $100 bill, subsequently robbing them. In another incident, an impersonator gained entry and ransacked a home.
Fort Worth officials stress that individuals feigning to be City employees are perpetrating fraud.
