Pre-construction work has begun for the expansion of a section of the North Tarrant Express between Fort Worth and Euless. This project aims to add capacity to one of the busiest corridors in the region, which has been struggling to meet the increasing demand.

With a budget of $414 million, the expansion will include the addition of one general-purpose freeway lane and one tolled, managed lane in each direction. The funding for this project will come from toll revenues collected on the NTE TEXpress Lanes.

"The North Tarrant Express is a major east-west corridor that crosses northeast Tarrant County and connects all cities between Fort Worth and Irving on the North Loop of I-820 and Airport Freeway (State Hwy. 183)," said a spokesperson for the project.

The expansion will primarily focus on the North Loop of I-820, where a new general-purpose lane will be constructed in each direction. Additionally, a managed lane will be added in each direction along Airport Freeway (State Hwy. 183). This will provide commuters with more options for travel and help alleviate congestion in the area.

In order to accommodate these changes, some ramps and connectors will be adjusted, along with a pedestrian bridge in Hurst. These modifications will improve the overall flow of traffic and enhance safety for pedestrians.

The timeline for this project is set to begin with early activities such as installing construction barriers and striping lanes. Full construction is expected to commence in mid-2024.

The expansion of the North Tarrant Express comes as a response to the increasing demand for travel in the region. As one of the most well-traveled corridors, it is crucial to address the capacity issues to improve the overall commuting experience.

City officials and transportation authorities are optimistic about the impact this expansion will have on the region. It is expected to reduce congestion, shorten travel times, and provide more efficient routes for commuters.

With the construction barriers already being put in place, it is clear that the North Tarrant Express expansion is now in motion. Commuters and residents can look forward to a more seamless and convenient travel experience in the near future.
