Washington, D.C.– Representative Van Duyne has issued a statement expressing her support for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the fiscal year 2024. The legislation, aimed at addressing the numerous and escalating threats faced by the United States, has garnered bipartisan support.

In her statement, Rep. Van Duyne acknowledged that while the NDAA is not perfect and contains elements that need further attention, it provides critical direction and funding to deal with a wide range of new and emerging dangers. She emphasized the importance of protecting the country and the safety of all Americans.

One of the key provisions added by Republicans is the full funding for deploying National Guard troops to support Border Patrol. Rep. Van Duyne highlighted the overwhelming workload of Border Patrol agents and stressed the need for additional resources to secure the southern border. She also mentioned that the NDAA forces the Biden Administration to either build the border wall or transfer materials to states like Texas, which are already taking steps to strengthen barriers.

The NDAA also includes funding for programs aimed at combating fentanyl trafficking and holding China accountable for collaborating with Mexican drug cartels. Rep. Van Duyne emphasized the importance of addressing the rising threat posed by the Communist Chinese and highlighted provisions aimed at increasing military readiness, expanding programs to deal with new Chinese threats in space and cyberspace, and moving production of weaponry and weapons systems away from the CCP.

Regarding the military, the NDAA supports servicemembers by providing a 5.2% increase in basic pay, the largest raise in over 20 years. It also authorizes the payment of a monthly bonus to junior enlisted members to counteract the effects of inflation and improves the housing allowance for junior enlisted servicemembers. Additionally, the legislation expands the Basic Needs Allowance to assist low-income servicemembers supporting a family.

Rep. Van Duyne also highlighted the need to address the infiltration of "woke" ideology in the military. She praised the inclusion of provisions that ban Critical Race Theory (CRT) in military training and promotion, as well as the measures to reduce the influence of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices within the Pentagon. The reforms aim to restore meritocracy and ensure that military promotions and accessions are based on individual merit and demonstrated performance.

In conclusion, Rep. Van Duyne stated, "Taken together, these important provisions, and scores of others, made meaningful changes to reverse the hollowing out of our military readiness and lethality the Biden Administration had caused through ineptitude and extremist ideology." She reaffirmed her commitment to working on behalf of the people of North Texas to prioritize the security of the nation and the effectiveness of the military in dealing with threats.

The NDAA for fiscal year 2024 is a crucial step towards addressing the growing threats faced by the United States, providing direction and funding to protect the country and ensure the safety of all Americans.
