Since September 19, 2023, residents in Fort Worth have been subject to a new ordinance regarding the service fee for overloaded carts and loose bags. This change aims to reduce improper solid waste disposal and promote a clean and safe city.
The primary goal of the fee increase is not to generate revenue, but rather to address the operational challenges and costs that overloaded carts and loose bags can cause the city. By encouraging correct disposal, Fort Worth aims to maintain a clean and safe environment for its residents.
Residents need to be aware of what is considered noncompliant in terms of solid waste disposal. According to the City ordinance, instances such as overfilled carts and loose bags are not allowed and are considered noncompliant. These instances can now result in additional fees for the residents.
To ensure proper disposal, the city has implemented Smart Truck Technology. This technology allows for automated monitoring of collections, resolution of resident issues, verification of noncompliance disputes, and improvement of service levels. Smart Truck vehicles used in Fort Worth are equipped with Automated Side Load (ASL) collection access, vehicle cameras, and image recognition software.
The new fees will be assessed on the City utility bill as solid waste fees. However, residents who believe they have been wrongly charged can file an appeal by contacting the Call Center at 817-392-1234.
It is important for residents to familiarize themselves with the requirements and guidelines for garbage and recycling in Fort Worth. Any questions or concerns can be directed to the City Call Center at the same number, 817-392-1234.
By implementing these changes, Fort Worth aims to ensure compliance with solid waste disposal regulations and maintain a clean and safe city for all its residents.
