Fort Worth has been recognized for its efforts in LGBTQ inclusiveness, achieving a score of 97 out of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI). The index evaluates cities based on their inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender residents.
The 2024 MEI serves as a rating system for LGBTQ inclusion in municipal law. To achieve high scores, cities must implement inclusive laws and policies that often exceed protections provided by state or federal government. This year's MEI marks the 13th annual edition and assesses 506 cities across all states on 49 different criteria.
Historically, Fort Worth has performed well in these evaluations. For eight consecutive years prior to this report, the city achieved a perfect score of 100. In previous years, Fort Worth scored 99 points in 2015, 83 points in 2014, 91 points in 2013, and 89 points in 2012.
