In the novel "Shambles," Megan Brooks is a forensic chemist who leads a quiet life as a single mother. Her world turns upside down when she encounters shocking evidence that forces her to unravel a web of lies, all in an effort to protect herself from a murderer who seems to be her fugitive ex-husband.

The author, D.M. O'Neal, brings authenticity to this gritty crime novel by drawing from her own experiences. O'Neal's interest in true crime stories began at the age of 13 while growing up in Fort Worth.
