The City of Fort Worth's Diversity & Inclusion committee is taking a powerful stance against racism and discrimination through their initiative called "Movies That Matter." This bi-monthly film series is not only a cinematic experience, but also a platform for educating the community about the struggles faced by various communities.

The true power of "Movies That Matter" lies in the moderated discussions that follow each screening. These discussions create a space for dialogue and allow the audience to engage with the content on a deeper level. It is within these conversations that the education behind racism takes center stage, fostering a community-driven approach to dismantling prejudice and discrimination.

On February 1st, the upcoming program titled "Who We Are – A Chronicle of Racism in America" will be featured. This thought-provoking documentary, led by Jeffery Robinson, invites audiences to embark on a profound journey of self-exploration. Robinson challenges viewers to examine their identity, roots, and aspirations.

The documentary skillfully combines historical and contemporary footage, blending Robinson's personal narrative with observational and interview segments. From the haunting remnants of a hanging tree in Charleston to a walking tour of the origins of slavery in colonial New York, and even the site of a lynching in rural Alabama, the film brings history to life.

"Who We Are" not only delves into the depths of racial injustice but also highlights the enduring legacy of white supremacy. By unraveling historical threads, the documentary prompts reflection on our collective responsibility to overcome systemic racism. It serves as a reminder that understanding the roots of racism is crucial for dismantling its pervasive influence in society.

In a society where awareness is the first step towards change, initiatives like "Movies That Matter" play a crucial role. Through the lens of cinema and facilitated discussions, this program not only celebrates diversity but also emphasizes the importance of education as a powerful tool for dismantling racism and building a more just and equitable world.
