Expanded hours mean more play time at community centers

Fort Worth’s Park & Recreation Department has increased hours of operation at several community centers across the city. This change is made possible by funding from the Crime Control & Prevention District and aims to enhance accessibility and meet the growing demand for various programs and services.

Among the community centers with expanded hours is the Chisholm Trail Community Center. According to the department, the center will now be open on Sundays from 1-5 p.m. Additionally, on weekdays, the center will be open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., with extended hours until 10 p.m. from Tuesday to Thursday. On Fridays, the center will be open until 11 p.m., and on Saturdays, it will operate from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Another community center that has extended its hours is the Eugene McCray Community Center. It will now be open from Monday to Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Fridays, the center will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Highland Hills Community Center has also adjusted its hours. From Monday to Thursday, the center will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Fridays, it will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The R.D. Evans Community Center has extended its hours as well. From Monday to Thursday, the center will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Fridays, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays, it will operate from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lastly, the Southwest Community Center has modified its hours of operation. From Monday to Thursday, the center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Fridays, it will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition to these changes, positions have been relocated to the Fire Station Community Center and Handley Meadowbrook Community Center, allowing these locations to also extend their operating hours. The Fire Station Community Center will now be open from Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturdays, it will operate from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Handley-Meadowbrook Community Center will be open from Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Fridays, it will operate from noon to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays, it will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

These changes in operating hours have been specifically tailored to address the needs of different communities within Fort Worth. The decision to extend the hours of these community centers aligns with recent requests from the City Council, reflecting the Park & Recreation Department’s commitment to providing inclusive and accessible recreational opportunities for all residents.

With these expanded hours, individuals and families in Fort Worth will have more time to enjoy the various programs and services offered by the community centers.
