Police Chief Neil Noakes updated the City of Fort Worth on the status of the Fort Worth Police Department's Crime Lab during a work session. This update follows a previous session held on October 22. Chief Noakes emphasized the department's commitment to addressing the backlog of sexual assault kits, maintaining testing integrity, and ensuring thorough case completion.

The number of overdue cases has decreased from 898 on October 11 to 708 as of November 4. A new protocol has been implemented where victims will be informed about any delays in testing, with detectives noting contact confirmation in case notes.

The Office of the Police Oversight Monitor is now involved in overseeing and monitoring the lab's progress. Efforts to recruit forensic scientists include job postings on FWPD social media channels and LinkedIn. Updates about the Crime Lab are available on the FWPD homepage.

The department plans to continue reporting progress to both the City Manager’s Office and City Council.
