The City of Fort Worth Diversity & Inclusion employee committee is hosting a program titled "Afrofuturism: Imagining the Future While Honoring the Past" as part of their Black History Month observance. The program will take place on Thursday, Feb. 15, from noon to 1 p.m. and can be watched via FWTV and the City's YouTube channel. It will also be available on demand on both platforms starting Friday, Feb. 16.

The presentation will delve into the basic tenants of Afrofuturism and its influence on these historic individuals. Additionally, attendees can expect a performance of music and monologues that span 300 years of history, infused with the ideology of Afrofuturism even before the term was coined.

Black History Month is a time to recognize and pay tribute to the contributions and legacy of African Americans throughout U.S. history. It celebrates activists, civil rights pioneers, and leaders in various fields such as industry, politics, science, culture, and more.

In an interview with City News, Dr. Angela Mack expressed her excitement about the upcoming program and the opportunity to shed light on Afrofuturism and its historical significance. She stated, "Afrofuturism allows us to imagine a future that is rooted in our past, acknowledging the struggles and triumphs of African Americans while envisioning a world where our culture and contributions are fully embraced and celebrated."

The program promises to be both educational and entertaining, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of Afrofuturism and its impact on history. It serves as an invitation for individuals to explore the rich heritage of African Americans and the role they have played in shaping society.

So mark your calendars for Thursday, Feb. 15, and join the City of Fort Worth in celebrating Black History Month through the lens of Afrofuturism. Don't miss this opportunity to learn, reflect, and appreciate the incredible contributions of African Americans throughout history.
