The Fort Worth City Council has taken a significant step in enhancing pedestrian safety by approving a $4.5 million agreement with All City Management Services Inc. for crossing guard services. As reported on April 24, 2024, this agreement aims to provide coverage for all intersections in the city and includes base salary increases for school crossing guards and field supervisors.
According to the Transportation & Public Works (TPW) Department, the primary objective of this initiative is to safeguard elementary and middle school-age children crossing intersections in Fort Worth. The approved contract outlines a structured funding plan, with amounts allocated as follows: $4,529,115 for the first year, $5,166,215 for the second year, and $5,820,550 for the third year. Additionally, the agreement allows for two one-year renewals, with provisions for increased funding in subsequent terms.
The allocated funds will facilitate base salary increases for school crossing guards and field supervisors, along with the incorporation of new intersections to accommodate the growth of the School Crossing Guards program. The financial support for this program is derived from the Crime Control & Prevention District Fund (CCPD).
Moving forward, the implementation of crossing guard services is scheduled for both morning and afternoon hours on regular and summer school days. This initiative is crucial in ensuring the safety of school children at various intersections across the city. Currently, more than 300 intersections in 14 school districts and 166 schools benefit from crosswalk protection, aiding elementary and middle school students in their daily commutes.
In conclusion, the approval of the $4.5 million agreement underscores the City Council's commitment to prioritizing pedestrian safety and enhancing the School Crossing Guards program in Fort Worth.
