New street sweepers have arrived in Fort Worth and will start sweeping in September. The fleet consists of 12 new street sweepers designed to clean dirt, debris, and trash from major city streets, promoting a cleaner and safer environment. This initiative aims to improve city cleanliness by expanding sweeping routes and increasing cycle frequencies.

Environmental Services equipment operators will receive onsite training with the street sweeper manufacturer, TYMCO, starting next week. Training is expected to conclude during the first week of September, with the sweepers set to begin operations on Sept. 6.

Cody Whittenburg, Environmental Service Director, expressed enthusiasm for the new fleet: “Our team is so excited to receive our new street sweepers. It is another step towards our unified goal to create and maintain a clean, safe and attractive City.”

In October 2023, City staff began researching and purchasing street sweepers while recognizing global fleet supply chain challenges. Over the past year, the City has partnered with Sweeping Corp. of America (SCA) to begin sweeping key routes.

Starting in September, the 12 new sweepers will take over SCA routes and work on developing a rotational schedule for other city streets. SCA will remain under contract for special projects or support as needed. TxDOT highways are not included in this initiative.

A photo opportunity with some of the new sweepers will be available on Sept. 10 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., at old City Hall at 200 Texas St., south parking lot.

Residents are invited to participate in the "Name the Sweepers Contest" by submitting their ideas online no later than Sept. 30. Selected names will be displayed on the side of new sweepers by November.
