Fort Worth Animal Care & Control is currently addressing cases of streptococcus zooepidemicus, commonly referred to as "strep zoo," at its shelter facilities. This rare but potentially serious respiratory infection in dogs can spread rapidly in crowded environments, particularly among stressed or immunocompromised animals.

With shelters over capacity, staff are implementing additional precautions to minimize transmission. All dogs are receiving prophylactic treatment, and those showing symptoms are being provided with intensive therapies. Despite the situation, adoptions and fostering of healthy animals continue as usual.
