The City of Fort Worth has been awarded $5.7 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This funding is part of a larger $420 million initiative aimed at eliminating lead-based hazards in homes across the nation.

The grant aims to protect children and families, particularly those in low-income households, from the dangers associated with lead exposure. The allocated funds will be used to identify and remove lead paint hazards in homes where children under six years old reside.

Lead exposure is known to pose significant health risks, especially for young children whose developing nervous systems are highly vulnerable. It also affects pregnant women and adults, potentially leading to reduced fetal growth, preterm births, high blood pressure, cardiovascular issues, and kidney damage.

To mark the occasion of receiving this grant, Neighborhood Services staff will hold a press conference on Wednesday, November 20th at 3:30 p.m. The event will take place at New City Hall's Main Lobby located at 100 Fort Worth Trail.
