Fort Worth residents gathered on a recent Saturday morning to collect 383 scrap tires for disposal. The event, hosted by Fort Worth’s Environmental Services Department on November 16 at the East Regional Library, encouraged locals to bring used tires and rims from various vehicles. Residents were also prompted to check and replace other tires such as those from bicycles or riding lawn mowers.
The initiative, partially funded by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), aimed to provide proper disposal options for used tires. It also sought to discourage illegal dumping, reduce fire and environmental hazards, and promote material reuse.
The collected tires are set to be taken to a recycling facility where they will be transformed into materials for products like playground surfaces, tire swings, asphalt, and landscaping materials. Some may even be repurposed into tire-derived fuel.
For those who missed this event, Fort Worth will host another Scrap Tire Collection Event on February 22 at the same location.
The City of Fort Worth expressed gratitude towards residents and employees for their participation in the November event and their dedication to environmental sustainability.
