Mark McDaniel Named Deputy City Manager

Fort Worth City Manager David Cooke has announced the appointment of Mark McDaniel as the new deputy city manager. With 35 years of experience in city management, McDaniel brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role.

Cooke praised McDaniel, saying, "Mark brings an emphasis on finance, organizational development, performance improvement, planning, operations management, and economic development." He also highlighted McDaniel's previous accomplishments, such as reinventing the budget and research function, serving as interim chief transformation officer, and creating the Fort Worth Lab during his consulting assignment in Fort Worth.

Before joining Strategic Government Resources (SGR) as a senior vice president, McDaniel served as the city manager for Kerrville, Texas. At SGR, he conducted executive searches and led special consulting efforts. During his time in Fort Worth, he served as the greenspace champion, focusing on acquiring open space and parks and enhancing existing city-owned property.

McDaniel's impressive career also includes serving as the assistant city manager for the City of Dallas, where he quickly rose to greater responsibilities and was eventually appointed as the first assistant city manager. He also created and provided direct leadership for the Dallas Center for Performance Excellence.

In his 10-year tenure as the city manager for the City of Tyler, Texas, McDaniel implemented significant culture change, including the use of Lean Six Sigma methodologies, innovative leadership structures, strategic planning, and employee training initiatives. His efforts were recognized with numerous awards.

McDaniel has held various municipal management roles in Texas, including budget director and assistant city manager for the City of Corpus Christi, city manager for Woodway, assistant city manager for Lake Jackson, and budget director for Denton. He has also been actively involved in professional organizations and has held leadership positions, such as vice president for the International City/County Management Association and president of the Texas City Management Association.

Mark McDaniel's appointment as the deputy city manager is a testament to his proven track record and extensive experience in city management. The city of Fort Worth can expect to benefit from his expertise in finance, organizational development, and performance improvement.
