Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker has taken a significant step towards the future of urban rail by creating the Mayor’s Urban Rail Committee Supporting Economic Development & Tourism in partnership with Trinity Metro. The initiative aims to explore opportunities for urban rail as an innovative transportation solution in Fort Worth.
Mayor Parker expressed the importance of this committee in light of Fort Worth's rapid growth, stating, "We know that Fort Worth remains one of the fastest-growing cities in America, and current trends show that in 2100 the Fort Worth-Dallas Metro region will be the largest metro area in the country." She emphasized the need to address the challenges and opportunities that come with this growth, particularly in economic development and tourism.
Trinity Metro CEO Rich Andreski highlighted the organization's commitment to anticipating future transit needs, stating, "Trinity Metro is always striving to think ahead for what Fort Worth’s transit needs will be into the future." The collaboration between Trinity Metro and the City of Fort Worth is seen as a strategic partnership to support the dynamic economic development and tourism needs of Tarrant County.
The committee, which will convene from summer through the end of 2024, will focus on three main tasks. Comprised of leaders in business, tourism, and transportation in Fort Worth, the committee will be chaired by Jay Chapa of J Chapa Strategic Solutions. The City of Fort Worth and Trinity Metro have also agreed to split consulting fees for the necessary research to drive the committee's efforts.
The formation of this committee underscores a proactive approach to addressing the transportation needs of a rapidly growing city and sets the stage for potential advancements in urban rail development in Fort Worth.
