The Transportation & Public Works Department installed the first red bus lane in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex last year, located alongside the Trinity Metro Fort Worth Central Station at 1001 Jones St.

The red bus lane preformed material is currently being removed by a TPW contractor due to wear and tear from construction at the Fort Worth Texas A&M campus. The lane material will be reinstalled after construction is completed. An interim solution involves making the “BUS” and “ONLY” markers red until the construction concludes in 2026. Downtown residents and visitors can expect this change by July 31.

The brightly colored lanes are designed to increase visibility and separation, which fosters decreased congestion and confusion within lanes, higher efficiency of bus service, and enhanced safety. All transportation modes can freely move about in other designated lanes.

TPW Assistant Director Kelly Porter stated: “As part of the federal Community Project Assistance allocation from U.S. Rep. Kay Granger, the City will be working on a redesign of the Jones and Calhoun corridors to better accommodate more pedestrian activity, access to transit and Amtrak, and other transportation needs.”
