Due to recent and consistent rainfall across North Texas, the water levels at Lake Worth have reached an elevation of 595.08 feet as of this morning. In accordance with the City of Fort Worth’s established Lake Worth Flood Action Plan, city officials are closely monitoring the situation.
Per the plan, the lake will be closed when the level reaches 595.5 feet. The closure prohibits all recreational activities including boats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes, and swimming until further notice.
At an elevation of 595.5 feet, boat wakes could cause flooding in some homes and submerge some boat docks, creating a navigation hazard. If the lake closes, it will reopen when the water level recedes to 595.0 feet.
City staff assures residents that necessary precautions are being taken to ensure public safety. Various city departments and agencies are actively involved in coordinating efforts to address any potential concerns arising from fluctuating water levels.
Debris is always a concern with major rainfall and inflow events to the lake. This can cause damage to dock structures and create dangers for boaters on the water. Although most debris is visible, there are also hidden dangers below the surface.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow any official advisories or instructions issued by city authorities. The city will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
