At Tuesday’s Fort Worth City Council meeting, councilmembers approved an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. to fund additional engineering services for the design and development of Phase I improvements at Gateway Park. The amendment is $1.255 million, coupled with the original contract of $475,000, for a total of $1.73 million as part of the 2022 Bond Program.

Gateway Park, located in east Fort Worth, is a 791-acre park that includes various recreational facilities. This amendment will support the development of Phase I improvements at the park and provide funding for crucial enhancements.

“Today, we celebrate a unanimous vote in favor of the Gateway Park Master Plan and our Good Natured initiative, marking a pivotal moment in our City's journey toward a greener, more connected future,” Mayor Mattie Parker said. “Gateway Park stands as a cornerstone in our park and recreation masterplan, unlocking endless possibilities for community, environment, and economic development.”

The Gateway Park Master Plan is being updated to incorporate new recreational facilities and park improvements, including infrastructure enhancements, sports courts, and pedestrian trails. The future development plans aim to enhance recreational and entertainment opportunities for residents.

Gateway Park is located inside the I-820 loop, north of Interstate-30 and east of Interstate-35. It is bordered to the south by the Trinity River which bisects its east portion extending northward. The park features Fort Worth's only synthetic turf field complex, a softball complex with concession stands, a disc golf course, rowing club boathouse, mountain bike trails, connections to the Trinity River Trail System, and Fort Woof Dog Park.

The 2022 Bond Program included $8 million to update the Gateway Park Master Plan and Phase I development that was prioritized through public meetings held in 2023.
