The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has recognized the Lake Como Community Cemetery as a significant part of Texas history and has awarded it an Official Historic Texas Cemetery Marker (HTC).
This marker designation honors the Lake Como Community Cemetery as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, enriching public awareness and preserving its architectural integrity. The cemetery is considered an important educational part of community history.
A public dedication ceremony to commemorate this historical event will be held at 10 a.m. on July 6 at 5801 Helmick Ave., followed by a reception at the Como Community Center. Speakers for the morning will include Como community members, Tarrant County Historic and Genealogical Society members, and distinguished delegates.
Cemeteries are important keys to Texas’ past, serving as reminders of historic events and revealing information about past religions, lifestyles, and genealogy. As development grows, cemeteries face increasing threats of neglect and endangerment. To address these issues, the THC offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation. This designation helps protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future landowners adjacent to the cemetery of its existence.
Lake Como Cemetery is located in the 5800 block of Helmick Avenue, which intersects Bryant Irvin Road one block north of Vickery Boulevard. The cemetery remains in use.
