The City of Fort Worth operates a school crossing guard program aimed at ensuring the safety of students during their commute to and from school. The program is managed by the Transportation & Public Works (TPW) Department and covers 15 districts within the city.
The crossing guards are present during busy drop-off and pickup times throughout the school year, including summer sessions when necessary. Public, private, or charter elementary and middle schools within Fort Worth can request these services by filling out an online form.
With the new academic year approaching, TPW is preparing to implement its “Crosswalk Champions” initiative. This program focuses on providing safe routes for students who walk or bike to school. A key component of this initiative is educating both motorists and pedestrians on using crossing beacons correctly through TPW’s “Motorist and Pedestrian Crossing Beacon Guide.”
An event marking National Walk to School Day is scheduled for October 2. TPW invites students, parents, school staff, and community members to participate in a morning walk to school. The day aims to promote pedestrian safety and community engagement.
To further enhance safety awareness, TPW plans to conduct safety assemblies and interactive presentations at schools. These activities are designed to make learning about pedestrian and bicycle safety engaging for students.
The City encourages residents to subscribe to City News for more updates on programs like these.
