Starting on Thursday, Aug. 8, the City of Fort Worth will host the CrossFit Games World Championships. The city has been working on bringing the games to Fort Worth for three years. The games run from Aug. 8-11.

After a number of onsite visits to Fort Worth, CrossFit moved the games from Madison, Wisconsin, where they had been hosted for the last six years. They said it was Fort Worth’s “hospitality, big-city feel, and of course, Dickies Arena” that inspired them to make the move to Cowtown.

The games will be streamed online and broadcast live on ESPN featuring athletes from 25 countries. Besides global exposure, here are other benefits for the city:

The event spans four days of competition at Dickies Arena with a Fan Experience taking place at Will Rogers Memorial Center. A community partnership with the Boys and Girls Club was established where CrossFit athletes and coaches will be going to a branch in Stop Six for various activities.

The Fort Worth Sports Commission and Visit Fort Worth were responsible for bringing the CrossFit Games to Fort Worth, among other major events.
