On Tuesday, August 13, Fort Worth City Council members approved the allocation of $6.46 million for the purchase of 512 W. Fourth St., intended to serve as a future downtown library. The location currently houses the headquarters for the Center for Transforming Lives.

The Fort Worth Property Management Department will oversee the property purchase process. The Center for Transforming Lives will relocate to a new, larger headquarters to continue its mission of assisting women and children escaping poverty and homelessness.

In the coming months, City and Fort Worth Public Library leadership will undertake several steps to develop the new site into a modern public library. Residents interested in providing input can register to receive email updates about the downtown location, including information on future community meetings.

Library Director Midori Clark stated, “We are eager to work with the community to design a library for downtown that will serve the needs of residents now and in the future.”

Library administration, City leadership, and the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation are evaluating various funding sources for upcoming renovations, including funds remaining from the sale of the 500 W. Third St. location.
