Fort Worth Water has completed an inventory of all service lines within its system, including those on private property, as mandated by federal regulations. The results are available online.
The inventory identified 32,590 service lines classified as galvanized requiring replacement (GRR). Notably, the utility confirmed that no lead service lines were present. However, only the privately owned portions of these lines consist of galvanized pipe.
In 361 locations, Fort Worth Water can confirm that lead existed at one time in the utility-owned portion of the service line. Due to an inability to prove that most utility-owned service lines never contained lead, these must also be categorized as GRR.
Customers with service lines marked as GRR will receive notifications in the coming weeks. Lead exposure is a significant health concern affecting people of all ages, with children and pregnant women being particularly vulnerable.
Fort Worth Water emphasizes that public health protection is their top priority. Both residents and the water utility have roles in minimizing the risk of lead contamination in drinking water.
For those who wish to contest the identified material for their property's service line, an online form is available for requesting a reinvestigation.
