The City Council of Fort Worth has taken significant steps to increase parkland in the area by approving the purchase of land and extending a lease. These actions align with Mayor Mattie Parker’s Good Natured Greenspace Initiative, which aims to preserve 10,000 acres of greenspace over the next five years.

The council has agreed to pay $13.4 million for approximately 298 acres of ranchland in northwest Fort Worth. This land will be converted into parkland known as Tinsley Ranch Park. The property is situated west of Highway 287 near Blue Mound at 3150 and 3450 Tinsley Lane. The sellers are Tinsley-Alliston Ranch Lands L.P., Tinsley-Alliston Homestead L.P., and the Ruby Lea Alliston Revocable Trust. According to city staff, this area is currently underserved in terms of community-based parkland.

Additionally, the council authorized a lease agreement between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the city for Rocky Creek Park and Marina for public recreational purposes. Since 1962, USACE and the city have been involved in a long-term lease for Pecan Valley Park as part of the Benbrook Lake Project. This includes more than 600 acres featuring amenities such as a golf course, picnic areas, trails, and a youth soccer complex subleased to the Fort Worth Youth Soccer Association.

Earlier this year, both parties agreed on a new 25-year lease covering 601.91 acres at Pecan Valley Park. Plans include expanding leased areas to incorporate Rocky Creek Park and Marina, adding about 292.4 acres to Fort Worth's park system.

The future Tinsley Ranch Park is expected to benefit north Fort Worth as it balances conservation efforts with ongoing development.
