The Park & Recreation Department will enforce earlier closing times for City parks starting January 1, 2025. The City Council approved changes to Chapter 24 of the City Code on Tuesday, setting the hours for all parks from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Currently, 117 parks operate under these hours or from dusk to dawn as exceptions in the existing ordinance. Other parks close at 11:30 p.m., but the new ordinance maintains the exception option.

This change aims to provide uniformity across remaining parks, including those linked to the Trinity River Trail system, which follows a 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. schedule under Tarrant Regional Water District's jurisdiction.

Permitted rentals, sporting events, or special events will not be impacted by this amendment.

The Fort Worth Police Department supports the new systemwide closing time of 10 p.m., and in September, the Park & Recreation Advisory Board also endorsed it.

Historically, park staff have received numerous calls from residents and neighborhood associations regarding the current closing time of 11:30 p.m., especially for neighborhood parks. Neighborhoods typically favor an earlier closing hour, and exceptions have been granted when necessary.

City parks will close at 10 p.m. beginning next year.
