Weather forecasts predict freezing temperatures to persist for the next few days. This situation necessitates taking preventive measures to protect water pipes in homes and businesses from freezing and potentially bursting.

Residents are advised to first locate and understand how to shut off the water supply at their private shut-off valve. Fort Worth Water acknowledges that emergencies may require immediate action, allowing residents to turn off the water at the meter themselves. Caution is advised when handling the meter and its wires during this process.

To prevent issues with frozen pipes, it is recommended to seek professional help if you experience a lack of water due to a suspected frozen pipe. A plumber should be called as the pipe might be cracked and could burst upon thawing. Using electrical appliances to heat pipes is discouraged due to risks of bursting and electrocution.

In case of a water main break, it is important to report any running water or buckled pavement by calling 817-392-4477 or using the MyFW app.
