As Fort Worth expands, the need to ensure public safety increases. The Crime Control & Prevention District (CCPD) had its Fiscal Year 2025 budget approved last fall, which included increased funding for police vehicles, bike patrols in Magnolia Street and the Fort Worth Stockyards, school resource officers, and school crossing guards.

The CCPD fund is crucial as it supplements the Fort Worth Police Department's budget to combat and prevent crime. Established by voters in 1995, CCPD receives a half-cent of the City’s sales tax. In 2020, voters extended the district for another decade. The police budget accounts for nearly 32% of the General Fund.

Recently, CCPD has proposed amendments to enhance city safety further. Among these changes is the proposal for a new Central Patrol Division. Initially planned to be located at old City Hall on Texas Street, logistical challenges and high costs prompted a search for an alternative site.

The recommendation includes finding a new location to accommodate 250 personnel needed for Central Division operations. A new facility would allow ending two costly leases and save over $800,000 annually. Requirements include securing a centrally located property with 7-10 acres and parking space for 300 vehicles.

At the upcoming CCPD meeting on Tuesday, February 25th, further amendments will be discussed along with budget allocations aimed at providing adequate protection as Fort Worth continues its rapid growth.
