Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne has introduced the No Congressional Funds for Sanctuary Cities Act (H.R. 205) in Washington, D.C. The proposed legislation aims to address what she describes as a national security threat posed by sanctuary cities. These are municipalities with policies that may obstruct immigration enforcement or shield individuals from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Under this bill, such cities would be barred from receiving community project funds appropriated by Congress.
"Radical sanctuary city policies undermine our national security and endanger citizens across our country," stated Rep. Van Duyne. "I’m introducing this bill to support President Trump’s plan to deport criminal illegal aliens by leveraging the power of the purse to pressure local governments to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement."
The No Congressional Funds for Sanctuary Cities Act was first introduced by Van Duyne in the 118th Congress. It seeks to hold accountable those cities that do not cooperate with ICE in protecting their citizens. Additionally, Rep. Van Duyne has initiated efforts to deport criminal aliens by empowering mayors and local law enforcement agencies to collaborate with ICE.
