WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business, celebrated the passage of his bill, H.R. 5427, in the House of Representatives. The legislation aims to implement a common-sense requirement to protect the integrity of Small Business Administration (SBA) lending programs.
Chairman Williams expressed his gratitude for the support received from his colleagues in a statement: "I am extremely grateful for my colleagues' support for my legislation to implement a common-sense requirement to protect the integrity of SBA lending programs."
The bill seeks to ensure that individuals convicted of defrauding pandemic lending programs are not given access to future financial assistance programs. Chairman Williams emphasized the importance of holding fraudsters accountable, stating, "No one who has been convicted of defrauding the pandemic lending programs should ever be given the opportunity to access future financial assistance programs."
Acknowledging that there is still work to be done to address the issues that led to the occurrence of unacceptable levels of fraud, Chairman Williams believes that this legislation is a crucial step in rebuilding confidence in the agency. He remarked, "There's much more work to be done to correct the issues that allowed these unacceptable levels of fraud to occur in the first place, but this legislation is an important step in rebuilding confidence in the agency."
The text of the bill, H.R. 5427, can be found on the official website of the House of Representatives.
Congressman Roger Williams, who represents the 25th Congressional District of Texas, is not only the Chairman of the House Small Business Committee but also a member of the House Financial Services Committee.
