Paws up! Fort Worth Animal Care & Control is once again teaming up with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to host the Empty the Shelters adoption event from May 1 to May 15. FWACC staff will be available at all four adoption locations to assist families in finding the perfect pet for them.

According to Cathy Bissell, the founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, our nation’s animal shelters are in a capacity crisis and need immediate assistance. Adoptions have slowed down, and a surge in owner surrenders due to economic and housing challenges has left tens of thousands of highly adoptable pets in desperate need of homes.

"Opening your home to a shelter pet saves a life and creates lifesaving space to help another pet in need," emphasized Bissell.

Adoption fees are waived during the Empty the Shelters event, and all animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered to prevent further pet homelessness. More than 410 shelters in 43 states are participating in this year’s event, providing a great opportunity for individuals and families to welcome a new furry companion into their homes.

The event not only gives families the chance to find a new best friend but also plays a crucial role in addressing the capacity crisis faced by animal shelters. By adopting a pet, individuals not only save the life of the adopted animal but also create space for another pet in need, truly making a difference in the lives of these animals.

Consider participating in the Empty the Shelters adoption event to help 'empty the shelters' and fill your heart with the love and companionship of a new furry friend.
